Practical SessionsPulse palpationTaught with an emphasis on clinical relevance and significance. Includes the use of provocative techniques and functional demonstrations related to posture, biomechanics and movement. Doppler ultra sound assessmentLearn a new skill for assessment and differential diagnosis. Allows assessment of presence and quality of peripheral pulses. The techniques learnt will facilitate location and assessment of functional/positional factors.
Ankle to brachial pressure indexA simple evidence based test for assessment/differential diagnosis in lower limb pain syndromes where a vascular component is suspected. The technique is non invasive and easy to use in a clinical situation. Exercise testingIncludes the use of positional exercise testing for the differentiation between spinal stenosis and vascular ischaemia. Maximal exercise ABPI testingA validated medical examination technique for assessment of athletes with exercise induced leg pain.
Blood pressure assessmentTaught with a specific relevance to musculoskeletal pain syndromes and clinical decision making in the upper limb and cervical spine. Particular attention is paid to the consideration and relevance of the use of BP measurement in advance of cervical movement techniques including exercise prescription, manipulation and non manipulative manual therapy methods.
Upper limb vascular testingA critical appraisal of currently available upper limb testing techniques including the arm to arm brachial index, the ischaemic fatigue index, and conventional clinical ‘thoracic outlet’ tests. |
